Care That Meets You Where You Are
At Gradients of Need, we believe that everyone deserves mental health care that is compassionate, culturally responsive, and accessible.
Founded in Flagstaff, Arizona, we offer online counseling for individuals, couples, and families throughout the state. Our name reflects our core belief: mental health exists on a spectrum, and each person’s needs are valid—wherever they fall.
We meet you where you are emotionally, relationally, and psychologically, supporting your journey with respect, understanding, and evidence-based care.
Why We Do This Work
We know that reaching out for help takes courage—and we’re honored to be part of your healing process. Our therapists are here to walk alongside you, not ahead of you. Whether you're processing trauma, managing stress, exploring your identity, or simply trying to feel more like yourself again, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
We value trust, collaboration, and real human connection. At Gradients of Need, you're not just a case or a condition—you’re a whole person with a story that matters.
Our Therapists

Dr. Amber L. Abila, DSW, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker | Clinical Director
“I believe therapy is a space to be deeply seen, heard, and supported—to reclaim your story and move forward with intention.”
With over 15 years in human services and a decade as a social worker, I've gained diverse experience in settings like psychiatric inpatient care, child protective services, community mental health, and crisis intervention. This broad background and my educational foundation help me understand the complex challenges individuals face on their mental health journey. I'm currently a full-time Associate Clinical Professor at the local university. Opening Gradients of Need allows me to continue the direct client work I genuinely missed.
I believe strongly in cultural humility and truly partnering with my clients, recognizing the profound importance of individual stories and cultural contexts in shaping our experiences. This means I prioritize understanding your unique background, values, and goals, ensuring our work together is respectful, tailored to your needs, and empowering. I utilize evidence-based practices to help people address concerns like stress, anxiety, family dynamics, and trauma. My clinical expertise allows me to bring practical wisdom to our sessions. Ultimately, my goal is to create a compassionate and effective therapeutic environment where you feel understood and empowered to make meaningful changes.
About Me
When I'm not at work, you'll find me embracing the outdoors, a true passion of mine. I'm incredibly family-oriented, sharing my life with my partner and our two wonderful dogs. While I'm originally from Western Colorado and it will always hold a special place in my heart, Flagstaff, Arizona has been my beloved home since 2017. My personal life, much like my professional one, is guided by a belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, striving to create space for diverse perspectives & practices.
I am personally and professionally committed to the importance of self-care and work-life balance. I truly believe in practicing what I preach, so I make sure to carve out time for my own well-being. This commitment allows me to show up fully present and engaged for my clients and students alike.

“I believe everyone’s story matters. My role is to listen, reflect, and help you move toward the life you want to live.”
I'm a licensed master social worker with a passion for helping adolescents and adults navigate anxiety, trauma, and chronic stress. With extensive experience in school-based, clinical, and community settings, I specialize in holistic, trauma-informed care that honors the mind-body connection and supports deep emotional healing. My background includes outpatient therapy for individuals in recovery, cannabis health education, and facilitating psychoeducational groups. I currently serve as a school-based counselor supporting special education students in rural Arizona and offer private coaching rooted in nervous system regulation and emotional well-being.
I integrate evidence-based therapeutic practices with practical tools to help you build emotional resilience, reconnect with your body, and regulate your nervous system. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by life transitions, struggling with self-regulation, or seeking support for trauma recovery, I provide compassionate, individualized care grounded in clinical expertise and somatic awareness.
